Frequently Asked Questions
- Why would I want a physical backup of my photos?
-
- Disasters happen to everyone. And cloud applications like Google Photos can have disasters too. And the best way to recover from a disaster is to have a little insurance. For data the best insurance is a second (or third!) backup. And we think that a physical copy, in your possesion, is a great backup option for photos.
- Could Google Photos ever lose my photos?
- It is always a possibility. A software bug on Google's software, your phone, or another application that has write access to your Google Photos account could cause you to lose precious memories. Or maybe even a toddler who gets ahold of your phone unsupervised. And the best protection from data loss in a backup.
- How do I disconnect Clone Camel from my Google Photos account?
- On the profile page there is a button at the bottom to "Disconnect from Google Photos" . This button will revoke Clone Camel's view only access to your photos. Please do not click this button before you receive your order as it will remove our ability to copy your photos.
- Can you delete or modify my photos?
- No. When you click "Login with Google" above Clone Camel will only receive view access to your Google Photos account from Google.
- Do you retain a copy of the photos?
- No. Clone Camel does not retain a copy of your photos after creating the SD card. However, we do retain view only access to your Google Photos account to process order you make in the future.
- Where is this service located?
- This website is hosted on Google Cloud services and uses Google App Engine and Google CloudSQL in particular. Your photos are copied to SD cards, as of this writing, in Los Angeles, CA.
- When will my order ship?
- Your order will usually ship the next business day via USPS. However, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic there may be delays. If your order is delayed you will be notified over email.
- How long does the microSD card last?
- The SD Association says that under normal use an SD card can last for up to 10 years. But, the best way to ensure your data never gets lost is to have multiple copies both physical and cloud.
